How We Can Help

01

Counselling

Gain clarity, build resilience, and move forward with confidence.

Counselling provides a safe and supportive space to explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences. Together, we'll use evidence-based, focused psychological strategies (FPS), such as ACT, CBT, and psychoeducation, to help you manage mental health conditions while addressing external factors like career uncertainty, academic challenges, finances, and relationships. This can help you work through life's challenges, develop healthy coping strategies, and build greater confidence and emotional wellbeing.

Whether you're feeling anxious, overwhelmed, lost, or simply need someone to talk to, counselling can help you gain clarity and move forward at your own pace.

02

Practical Support & Advocacy

Understanding the whole person and providing support beyond the counselling room.

Social work takes a holistic, person-centred approach by recognising that wellbeing is influenced by many aspects of life, including relationships, study, work, finances, family, culture, and the systems around us.

Sometimes emotional support alone isn't enough. You may also need someone who understands complex systems and can help you navigate them with confidence.

Using a strengths-based, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and solution-focused approach, I help you navigate complex situations, understand your options, communicate effectively with organisations, connect with the right resources when life becomes overwhelming, and take meaningful steps towards positive change.

04

Why Thrive Through?

At Thrive Through, we believe challenges are not simply obstacles to overcome. They are opportunities for growth.

Our approach combines evidence-based social work practice with compassionate counselling to support both your emotional wellbeing and the practical realities of everyday life.

We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions.

We work alongside you to understand your unique circumstances, strengthen your resilience, and empower you to build a life that feels meaningful, connected, and authentically yours.

Meet Siyu (Alanna) Yao

Siyu (Alanna) Yao

Outside of work, you'll usually find me spending time with family and friends, keeping active, discovering new cafés and restaurants, or learning something new. I believe personal growth is a lifelong journey, and I enjoy bringing that same curiosity and commitment into my work with clients.

Hi, I’m Alanna.

I’m an Australian-qualified Social Worker (BSW Hons, UNSW) with experience across mental health, higher education, and community services.

I have extensive experience supporting young adults. My experience has given me an in-depth understanding of the challenges clients face and effective ways to address them.

I founded Thrive Through because I believe everyone deserves compassionate, practical, and professional support. My approach combines Focussed Psychological Strategies with practical guidance. This support helps people navigate difficult times while strengthening their confidence, resilience, and ability to shape what comes next.

When you work with me, you can expect:

  • A safe and non-judgemental space
  • Honest and compassionate conversations
  • Practical strategies you can apply in everyday life
  • Collaborative goal setting
  • Support that respects your values, culture, and individual circumstances
